(Day 6 - 3/10) Nazareth to Jerusalem

Sunrise over the Sea of Galilee from our hotel.
This is our 6th glorious day of living the Bible!

Early this morning we left Tiberias and the charming Ron Beach Hotel on the Sea of Galilee.  Our bus carries us through Cana of Galilee where Jesus performed his first miracle, changing water into wine at the wedding! Hani, our guide, relates wonderful stories of the happenings in these valleys - how Jesus would teach while sitting under the shade of a fig tree, for example!

Church of the Annunciation - Church today covers entire village of Nazareth in the time of Jesus!
Nazareth, the "flower" of the Galilee, is our first stop.  The modern Basilica of the Annunciation shields a grotto where it's believed the angel told Mary that she would have a son.  The walls of the sanctuary are lined with lovely art of the Madonna and Child donated by countries around the world.  The gift from the USA is by Charles L. Madden, sculptor from Pennsylvania.  It's beautiful!  Google it!

We drive through the green Jezreel Valley - the most fertile area in Israel.  The Bible refers to this as the Valley of Armageddon - where many battles have been fought.  In the distance we see Mt. Tabor where the Transfiguration of Christ took place - where Elijah and Moses appeared with Him.

Walking through history as we pass through this ancient gate at Megiddo
In Megiddo we climb around the ruins of a town that has been destroyed 25 times and rebuilt 25 times! Megiddo's height in glory was during King Ahab's reign - a lavish stable for his 450 horses and a tunnel leading to the town's well - Megiddo Spring.  200 steps down and 87 steps up - we did it!

On to Mt. Carmel where the prophet Elijah lived.  Devotions were held in the lovely garden  - Carolyn Carruth told the story of Elijah's and Baal's competition, and then, we entered the small chapel to see the altar made with 12 stones.

Lunch break was falafel or schnitzel pitas and a salad -- a needed stop for refreshment!
Theater at Caesarea by the Sea
We head toward the Mediterranean and the city of Caesarea - the once glorious city built by Herod the Great does show just how great the Emperor Caesar was!  At the aqueduct we just had to put hands or feet in the Mediterranean Sea!

The day closes as we arrive in Jerusalem.  Tomorrow holds the promise of more WOW moments, emotional moments, prayerful moments as we remember our Lord.
